Status Code is a tactical hacking game about reclaiming The Cloud from rogue anti virus programs.

Be careful how you move your units, your units' health is tied directly to the space they occupy on the battle grid.

This game was created for the JS13k game jam and heavily inspired by Spybotics: The Nightfall Incident. There's a lot I didn't get to put into this game, I'd love to return to it one day.

ran into a bug - got this screen and was unable to progress, game seems really cool though!

Ah, thank you for the bug report! Sorry you got stuck here.

Glad you enjoyed in spite of it! :-)

I recorded a playthrough of this game while also sharing my thoughts on the game.

I enjoyed the actual battle mechanics with movement increasing your unit’s effective hit points. The game UI though could use some polishing. I think it would be a good decision to utilize more horizontal space to avoid getting out of the screen in terms of the vertical space (see the last minutes of the video during the last level). It’s also not always clear what areas are clickable since there are no borders and everything is just pitch black.

The enemy units variety and asymmetric nature of the game balance (our units are different from the enemy units) make this game quite enjoyable for me.

I would like to play more levels. :) The gameplay looks quite solid. With some extra content and perhaps some extra mechanics to make the level design more varied, it could somewhat reliably expect the player to stay for several hours. I don’t know if it’s possible to make it a good 10+ hours experience, but it’s a funny little game nonetheless.

Maybe with a random level generation, it could be a good mobile game? Since the battle only takes 2-5 minutes, it could be a good candidate for that.

Thank you for taking the time to play Status Code and record a playthrough! :-)

That’s great feedback for the UI. It is certainly a bit rough right now.

The random level generation is a great idea. I’ll have to think on that!

Really solid strategy game!

I'm practicing to be a QA game tester and have some notes if you want them! <3 Google Doc Bug report

In my case if I end turn while the attack is highlighted then the enemies will not try to kill me

Thanks for the bug report! That’s a good find. :-)

Love your games as always. Levels 1 and 2 were so easy i won without understanding the game fully 😆. But level 3 took me 5 tries to finally do it. The Cursor design is perfect (weak opponent with weak attack, but infinite range ❤). I am still working on beating level 4

Thanks for checking it out! :-)

This game could definitely use a bit of a tutorial haha. I super ran out of time for that in the original jam

I realized that my phone was only showing stages 1,2,5, and 6 (only the left side levels). So, I actually finished 5 and was doing 6. Right now in my PC, I finished all stages except 4 and 8

Oh that’s super weird! I’m not sure if I ever tested this on mobile at all hah. Nice work though. :-)
