Zoldath Two Point Oh
Context
This game was created for Eggplant Gamejam 24. The theme for this jam was to choose one of the first row games from UFO 50 and make a project inspired by it.
Planet Zoldath is still the game that speaks to me the most in UFO 50. I wrote a short post about that on my blog.

Controls
Use WASD to move your character around, and bump into things to interact with them.
There are some soft locks in this game! Resetting is encouraged!
Making Zoldath Two Point Oh
I particularly loved deciphering the weird systemic layers of Zoldath. I wanted to double down on that in a different setting.
I decided to go with emoji, only WASD for controls, and a single screen to keep the scope down. The control restriction actually ended up being way more limiting that I was expecting. It is hard to hide surprising interactions without any form of action button.
A lot of my time ended up going to just trying to find ways to make surpsiring systems at all within these limitations. Many of these didn't end up very satisfactory or useful for solving the puzzle.
I really wanted to get to randomization, but opted to craft a single level first. Trying to inernalize the parameters of the generator in Planet Zoldath was a big part of the game for me. But, I super ran out of time and inspiration to actually even think about randomization.
I found the single screen restriction ended up really constricting in the end too. This isn't surprising haha. One of the neat things about Planet Zoldath is trying to figure out which details/objects/resources are relevant to your run. On this small screen, it was hard to hide details since everything is circumspect.

Delightful! The farnxl jencnebhaq took me a while!
wait so how do you play?
walk around with WASD and bump into things to learn what they do - it’s kinda just a big mushy puzzle
